About Madrid
Madrid is a buzzing metropolis that lies in the middle of Spain and has an excellent climate, friendly locals, world-class chefs, theatres and unparalleled national and international shops and boutiques.
Madrid is the ideal mix of the traditional and modern, while providing plenty of opportunity to immerse oneself in the best of the culture, language and gastronomy that Spain has to offer.
Castellano:
In Madrid, the language that’s spoken is Castellano! There are four official languages in Spain: Catalan (Barcelona), Basque (the Basque Country) and Gallego (Galicia), as well as Castellano, which is spoken throughout Spain and you’ll hear in music, movies and on TV. The accent of the city is really clear so you should have no problem understanding it.
Cuisine:
When locals in Madrid want to kick back and have a drink or a snack in a beautiful bar or out on a terrace, they love to get tapas! Tapas have been a tradition in Spain for centuries. Many Spaniards go for tapas between meals to enjoy a cold beer or a glass of wine, as well as a tasty snack. The thing that really makes Madrid so good for trying different tapas is that legally, restaurants are obliged to serve some type of tapas for free with every alcoholic drink. Going for tapas is one of our favorite cultural activities here at LAE Madrid!
Climate:
If you like sunny weather, Madrid is going to be a sure hit. Warm temperatures matched with clear skies for most of the year will encourage you to spend more time out and about to experience all Madrid has to offer. There is always somewhere new to explore. Many people go bike riding in the parks, hiking in the near mountains, swimming at the community pools, have drinks in a local plaza, and so much more!
Central, Cosmopolitan, Cultural:
Madrid is the capital and the center point of Spain so it’s the most well-connected city in Spain. You can easily travel by plane, train, bus, and more to explore other surrounding cities and villages in Spain.
Madrid is also known for its trendy style and shopping. Each neighborhood transforms itself with trends that are modern, hip, elegant, and traditional, so there’s something for everyone’s taste. No matter where you are, there will always be at least one market, one pharmacy, a store with fresh fruits and vegetables, and clothing shop around every corner.
The city is full of museums that hold some of the world’s most classical and modern art. In addition, it has an amazing theatre district and fun local neighborhood festivals that you will be able to participate in.
Nightlife:
Last, but certainly not least, Madrid has the best nightlife in Europe, full of fun and excitement! There are pub crawls, language exchanges (intercambios), football games, dance clubs, themed nights, parties after work, and events specifically for foreigners. The list is never-ending!
