If you are planning to learn Spanish in Spain, there are a few things you need to know about Madrid nightlife.
Madrid has the best nightlife in Europe, full of fun and excitement! From intimate piano bars to massive clubs, there’s something for everyone. The heart of the city, Sol, is packed with some of the best clubs and bars in the world, notable examples being Kapital (one of the biggest in Europe, with 7 floors!) and Joy Eslava. Gran Via is the place to go for all your shopping needs and is a must see at night. With most clubs closing at 6 in the morning you’d be hard pressed to find yourself with nothing to do.
Madrid is a safe place in general (one of the safest capitals in Europe in regard to serious crime) and there are many security personnel on the streets and metros in order to keep it that way. As with any other big urban centre you should keep your eyes open and be careful with your belongings when in crowded areas, as you may fall victim to a pickpocket.
Keep your wallet in a closed pocket and don’t walk around with an open handbag. When returning from a night out in a small group or on your own, try to keep a low profile by not shouting in a tipsy foreign language and identifying yourself as a foreigner, as this can easily lead to you being targeted.
In general, common sense usually goes a long way to deterring potential thieves.
