Characteristics of the imperative
The use of the imperative in Spanish is more frequent than in other languages, reflecting the direct Spanish culture. It is used to give orders, requests, advice, and express direct desires. Unlike other languages, in Spanish, the imperative is even used in formal contexts, such as restaurants and shops, without being considered impolite. Additionally, the importance of adding the expression “por favor” (please) when using the imperative to soften the request is highlighted (“tráeme la cuenta, por favor“)(“bring me the bill, please”).
