This weekend, Madrid will witness one of the biggest football tournaments in the world, as the Wanda Stadium welcomes Liverpool FC and Tottenham for the Champions League Final 2019. Whether you’re a Madrid resident or you’re visiting the capital, here we give you the lowdown on what to expect and how to enjoy the beautiful game in our beautiful city.
Fan Zones in Madrid
There will be two separate places for the fans of the two clubs to congregate.
- Tottenham Fans: Plaza de Colón
- Liverpool Fans: Avenida Felipe II (Plaza de Salvador Dalí)
There will be stages with DJs and appearances at each of the fan zones. Here you can see more information about the Liverpool fan zone in Madrid. These fan zones will only be open until 18.00, which gives fans plenty of time to get onto public transport to access the Wanda Stadium.

Where to watch the match in Madrid
If you’re at the fan zones but don’t have tickets to the big game, you’ll want to head to a local bar to see it. Madrid has tons of great little bars that serve cold beer with tapas. If you head away from the busy city center areas, you’ll have more chance of finding somewhere that has space. Getting to the Wanda Stadium for the Champions League Final
Liverpool Fans:
To get to Metropolitano Stadium from the Meeting Point, head to GOYA Metro Station, next to the square, and take line 2 (the red line, heading towards Las Rosas) to LAS ROSAS Station (7 stops, about 20 minutes). From there, it’s about a 15-minute walk to Metropolitano Stadium.
Tottenham Fans:
To get to Metropolitano Stadium from the Meeting Point, you’ll need to head to ALONSO MARTÍNEZ station again. It’s located in the square of the same name, and you can reach it by walking back up Calle Génova. From there, take metro line 5 (the green line, heading towards Alameda de Osuna) to CANILLEJAS station (11 stops, about 25 minutes). From the metro, it’s about a 20-minute walk to Metropolitano Stadium.
How to move around Madrid – public transport
Madrid has one of the best public transport systems in the world, and also one of the cheapest.
The Metro of Madrid is an underground network that connects the center with other points of the city. In order to get into the underground of Madrid. You’ll need to get a plastic Metro card, which is available in any metro station, and you can top them up with trips as you go. It’s cheaper to top it up with 10-trips at a time, which costs around €12. These trips can also be used on buses around the city, and the intercity railway.
